Darkmire Moonkin Card Review
Terrible card, pack filler. 2/8 stats are very, very bad for 7 mana – those stats would even be bad on a 5-drop.
The +2 Spell Damage bonus is nice, but it’s really hard to combo some spells immediately with this, since even on Turn 10 you’re left with 3 mana. It’s far too late against Aggro, and it’s slow even against Control decks.
Jungle Moonkin made some sense, despite its downside, because it costed 4 – you could combo it e.g. with Swipe on Turn 8. Same goes for the Evolved Kobold – it has seen some play in Freeze Mage when Emperor Thaurissan was still in Standard, because you COULD still combo it with some spells. This one just looks bad.
We actually had another +2 Spell Damage card in Frozen Throne – Spellweaver. Guess how much play it has seen.
Card rating: 1/10
Funny fact. This card is the lowest rated of this website and I made legend in wild with a maly druid containing this card. Aviana kun maly moonkin gloopsrayer. Ez 14 spell dmg. Full tutorized by the melon.
This is the absolute lowest rated card on this site
official Pack filler from the witchwood expansion
Weren’t Moonkins considered Beasts? Druid has 4 mana 4/4 Beast with spell damage +2 for both players and i find this card best to compare with Darkmire Moonkin.
Weakmire Sadkin
If this were a 3 mana 1/1 instead, it would’ve been great as a combo enabler, but it is unfortunate how expensive Spell Damage has to be to make sure it doesn’t break the game at times.
Nice artwork, but needed at least +3 attack to be worth the cost as is.
Nope. The Big Health and Spell Damage may be nice for AoE, but the Mana Crystals are too Pricey.
Dust.
And stay away from this Card in Arena.
Lady in white. However priest doesn’t benefit all that much from spell damage.
Or, Pull with Oakheart. Likely the 2/8 will survive as it’s not much of a threat. Next turn pull double divine spirit and inner fire for OTK (two turn..). Equally you could use the 3/15 taunt bear; and it’s still for priest
It’s a pretty trash card but could be played.
Even more to the point you could recruit the new 3/11 dragon. I should probably check out all the new cards before sharing my opinion next time.
If this was 7/7 it still wouldn’t be played.
100% boring filler
Do we need to get bad Spell Damage minions in EVERY single expansion? Come on – which Spell Damage minions are good? Those CHEAP ones (Thalnos, Zealot…) or those with acceptable stats for what they do (Azure Drake, Black Cat). Or Malygos, because it enables OTKs. But I’ve never EVER seen understated Spell Damage minions be competitive. Corrupted Kobold? Street Trickster? Yep. This falls in the understatted category. 1/5 stars.
The +2SD kobold guy saw play in freeze mage, exactly because it enabled a bunch of damage with frost spells. This costs 7 mana though, so it’s a lot worse, even though it’s stickier. You might pick it in arena if you happen to have four swipes.
I probably started playing after that happened, because I’ve never seen the Kobold guy, not even in Casual. I don’t know why Blizzard insists in the same iterations of bad minions instead of printing something new. Like the unicorn that only you could target with spells. It ended up being a terrible minion, but at least it was a new concept. Bad Spell Damage minions and 0-attack Taunts keep on being printed, and they’re pack fillers and waste of cards.
Vomit-Inducing.
