Coffin Crasher Card Review
Look! Priest got his own Voidcaller! And as we all know, the ability to summon cards from your hand without paying the cost can be very, very powerful.
Let’s start with the stat-line. It’s GREAT, and I mean it. When seeing such a powerful effect, you’d expect something like a 3/3 (just look at the Possessed Lackey – it’s a 5 mana 2/2 for a reason). Yes, summoning from your hand is a little worse than Recruiting, because you’re losing card advantage, but that can still be a massive tempo swing.
Just imagine getting this into Obsidian Statue. You’ve paid 6 mana to get a 6/5 that Deathrattles into a 4/8 Taunt with Lifesteal and a powerful Deathrattle. Great! But even the worse scenarios are also good. Cairne Bloodhoof, Bone Drake or even the new Rotten Applebaum seem like great cards to get from this guy.
I could totally see this in a kind of Midrange Deathrattle Priest deck, maybe with some Dragon synergies too (Bone Drake). It could also play Carnivorous Cube to make some of those Deathrattles even better. While pulling Cube from this one might not be that optimal, it’s still a 6/5 that Deathrattles into a 4/6, which would be good tempo if anything.
Maybe Quest Priest? But I’m not sure whether a deck like that would actually want to play Quest. I imagine something more proactive, and proactive decks would suffer quite heavily from having to start with 1 card less every game. Plus getting to 40 health is not as important if you’re the one dictating the pace of the game. Still, Quest might be a good choice if the meta demands it.
Yes, this card loses to Silence, but it’s actually not that bad. You still have a 6 mana 6/5, it’s much better than most of the cards that are good Silence targets. The Lackey I’ve mentioned before for example – you’re left with a 6/5 not a 2/2. You can trade into the Spellbreaker and still have a 6/1 alive, meaning that you haven’t really lost any tempo that way.
I understand why they’ve waited before N'Zoth, The Corruptor rotates out before introducing this card. It could be seriously broken in a N’Zoth deck.
I have to say that this card is very powerful, but it might be hard to find the right deck for it. If such a deck is found, however, this can be pretty broken in some situations.

Amazing card that has crazy good synergy with Obsidian Statue, Deranged Doctor and Spiritsinger Umbra. 6 mana drop for 6/5 stats and possibly 4/8 or 8/8 minion with heals same turn is unbelievably good value and summoning one such minion later again for free is bargain. Doing this over and over again with resurrects has proven to be metabreaking and I strongly believe healing deathrattle priest will be meta in coming expansions. So far it destroys control decks at ease.

This is an awesome card! I think this can lead to some amazing plays and feelsgoodman moments. Many people have mentioned obsidian statue. Lots more where that came from! 5/5.

You have obviously never played against Big Zombie Priest. It’s almost painful to kill something in it.. they just keep resurrecting it and reviving it and duplicating it..

this card is interesting. No idea if it will be used but it can work with obsidian statue or with primordial deathwing in a Dragon priest. At least it’s a good bait for silence and you have to remove it from the board in any case

It does not put a copy of a minion on the board. It pulls it out of your hand. So your hand will end up empty on deathrattle minions.

i like that you looked at this potentialy insane card and thought “could be stronger” 4/8 taunt and eberything eles it has i mean just put in a few fuck off deathrattles and this will be broken.

There might be a quest/dragon priest deck with this expansion. Cards like bone drake, twilight’s call, and cube all help, and dusk breaker provides board clear and could be a drop from bone drake. Might not be tier 1, but definitely will be fun to play.
Such a deck lacks a win condition at the moment since Awaken the Makers just gives you a better Reno. It would be good against decks that are midrange or faster, but Amara doesn’t provide the sort of long lasting value one would need to win in the late game against control and combo decks.
It would probably be fun to screw around with and annoy people by pulling it off though similar to the Weasel Tunneler deck.
That’s the main thing I’m working out at the moment. The best options are outlast the opponent, which isn’t optimal due to how slow it is, or use Shadowreaper Anduin to ping down the opponent, which could work if I use mind blast and Velen in the deck and build a variant of Control Priest. Sadly, without an effective replacement for N’zoth, the deck will struggle, although Umbra could remedy the situation. But there are still more cards to be revealed for Witchwood, so priest could get that replacement given how much deathrattle support it has been given with Twilight’s call, Obsidian Statue, and now Coffin Crasher.
Maybe consider prophet velen, gargoyle acolyte and 2x mind blast for 20 damage burst?

amara can be nasty vs co trol decks cuz u can play archbishop and copy their deck .odsidian statue is hell of taunt and can carry u .u can just fatigue enemy to death and copy their cards but cheating obsidian from your hand is something very interesting i like this card alot.
Against Control Decks, quest is great, but with dude paladin and warlock having such dominance in the meta currently, fatigue isn’t the best option to win games.

Yes. Such a strategy can work since you’d play Amara when you’re low on health and then hold back your opponent with the value created by Obsidian Statue revivals with Eternal Servitude and Diamond Spellstone while also outlasting them with the cards you get from Archbishop Benadictus. It’s the best of all worlds on paper.
The issue comes into play when you consider what your opponents might be playing. Right now, the only other control deck worth considering in most cases is Cube Warlock variants, which draw half their deck by the turn you could play Benadictus. Even then, all the extra time they have increases the chances they’ll pull off the Rin the First Disciple and destroy your buffed up deck. It also doesn’t help one of this potential deck’s most important cards is a 7 mana 4/6 that doesn’t instantly affect the board or draw you cards.
Obsidian Statue is a powerful card and it usually is the best thing you can summon with this or Free from Amber, but playing Amara has little to do with playing Archbishop and playing both can often conflict with each other at least if you play the latter first.
Kibler made a really good dragon quest priest deck once, combining huge dragon bodies with the health restoration provided by amara and the late game value from the elise pack, was a pretty decent deck but still nzoth rotating out is a problem for the archetype
It does look like it would be, but the dragon portion provides as much of the power of the deck, if not more, than the deathrattle synergies just because the dragon package is just so strong as it is.

If you have just another coffin crasher in your hand, you can summon 5 Minions for Free
Deathwing Dragonlord will leave standard, as will N’zoth, but Umbra could work in the deck, and maybe priest will get a deathrattle-based legendary in witchwood.
Umbra Spiritsinger + Coffin Crasher + Obsidian Statue turn 10.
Umber and Coffin Crasher could be a thing, but whatever that thing it better win you the game as it is a 10 mana and 3 card combo. Such a thing could be done with Deathwing, Dragonlord, especially if you summon a Ysera, but other than maybe Statue, there isn’t anything we know of that would be that good in Standard.

Yeah. A minion with an ability like that will eventually do something at least semi-competitive.
I can see this working to insert Obsidian Statue into more Priest decks or be an addition into Big Priest to get the Obsidian Statues and any other deathrattles one might play in that deck perhaps 3 turns before you’d normally get to do so. Granted, Big Priest will need another card like Barnes for that deck to be anything more than auto lose to aggro and tempo the deck.
It is pretty decent by itself, especially if a Deathrattle Priest finally becomes viable, but this is a card whose power will be greatly determined by the quality of the cards you’d want to summon with it, and right now Obsidian Statue and maybe Cairne are the only cards you’d really want to float into from what I can tell unless there’s some lower cost deathrattle I’m forgetting at the moment.
The 6/6/5 dragon that gives you a deathrattle is also a decent target for this.
I guess, and Bone Drake and this could be okay replacements for cards Spiteful Dragon Priest will be losing next month, but I am unsure if it will be enough.

They already had that in Big Priest with Barnes and Shadow Essence. Sure, this is an extra body on top of it, but Priest doesn’t have a Dark Pact-esque combo piece to make Coffin Crasher into an instant turn 6 or 7 Statue.
Plus you have to draw both the Statue and Crasher to get the combo off in a class without a whole lot of extra draw, where as Lackey call pull the Voidlord out of the deck.

Is this good with a couple statues, cairne and maybe 1 or 2 other big deathrattles? You don’t have to go full quest priest right?
Maybe quest priest will be a thing after rotation. There are some sweet deathrattle minions this could pull, and we might get some more in this expansion. Priest will need to have some early game plays to survive long enough to complete the quest and play Amara though. Even without that, this seems like a solid target for vivid nightmare.
One of the biggest issues with decks built around the weaker quests is they lack a true win condition within the quest itself.
Awaken the Makers gives you a better Reno, good against aggressive and tempo decks, but it can’t win a game by itself. If a deck built around it can’t become viable with N’Zoth, I very much doubt a deck without it will be able to do much with out without Obsidian Statue Summoner the card.
The best quests give you a reward that affects your opponent in some way. Rogue’s pressure’s your opponent with cheap 5/5s, Warrior’s instant kills minions or deals heavy damage to their hero every turn, and Mage’s skips their turn. The ones that have not seen play outside of experimentation, other than Warlock’s and Paladin’s, only affect you.
