Kinda wish it only targeted enemy minions. Would’ve been a nice clear to Paladin boards.

Mini Avenging Wrath for Mage. Cool.

Bad to put on decks, but sometimes can be good to get from Primordial Glyphs.

I don’t think Mage needed a bigger version of Arcane Missiles.

Ok I see why you guys are all saying it’s bad, as it’s 2 mana for 2 damage… But here’s the thing you are missing.

Arcane Missiles is 3 shots. Greater Arcane Missiles (the 9 damage one) is also 3 missiles.

This is FIVE missiles. That means that if you apply spell damage to it it should do 10 damage if I’m understanding this right.

    That’s pretty good.

No. Arcane missles does four random damage with Spell damage +1. If it were written like Greater Arcane Missiles (Shoots 5 missiles that do 1 damage each) it would do 10.

I like it. I’ll gladly pay one less mana for a spell that only does one less damage. There’s some rng involved, but that’s fine with me. It could kill the one minion your opponent played, or at least get it in range of death from the Mana Wyrm or Flame Elemental you played. It could ping one or more of the five 1-health minions the Dude Paladin got out, or you could save it to pair with something like Black Cat or an upgraded hero power (of course I’m thinking of scenarios for an odd-costed Mage deck. I think I’ve been quite vocal about wanting to try it at this point.)
Since it is random after all you’ll never get the most desired outcome all the time, but I don’t think it’s as terrible as some people are calling it.
Then again, I’m not the best at rating cards, so maybe I’m wrong and they’re right. We’ll have to see once the set’s actually out.

This is a bad spell! Arcane Missiles is 3 damage for 1 mana, here you pay 2 more mana to do 2 more damage? For it to be competitive it should deal at least 6 damage I think. Don’t forget you can discover this from Primordial Glyph or get it from RNG Mage spell generators, so it dilutes that pool. Did Greater Arcane Missiles ever see any play? Yeah, I don’t think so… Spell Mage got bad support this expansion, it seems. 1/5 stars.

Yeah, but fireball is 4 Mana for 6 damage and with pyroblast you pay 6 more Mana for 4 more damage, so it’s even worse than this card by your logic. I doubt it will see play, but that’s because of the rng aspect – arcane missiles and spreading madness don’t see play either

Exactly! Since Fireball is 6 TARGETED damage, it makes sense that it would cost 1 more mana. So this should do 6 damage too. Pyroblast is way overcosted, but that’s because it can be used to reach lethal (if it did 12 damage, which would be more “fair”, it would be OP). Arcane Missiles saw play when Flamewalker was a thing. Now it has potential to come back with the Raven that creates 2-drops when you cast a spell. But this… this won’t see any play!

I think you’re missing the point. It’s an odd costed spell, for all those would be Odd mages (if it’s viable enough to play). More importantly, it’s still low enough in cost to be easily buffable by spell dmg, and clears board against heavy aggro or dude, or goes for the face when you’re ahead. It’s a versatile spell, and I think its damage is fair for that.

Is every mage going to run this? No. But I think it’s a decent spell that will see some play, should the deck need it. Versatility is more underrated than you think.

“Clears the board against aggro or dude” I think is an overstatement. If Paladin has 3 one health minions on board when you play this, the chance of completely clearing the board is less than 50%. Sometimes it will only kill one dude. Versatility is good, if you can control it. I still don’t think this is good enough, but sure, maybe I’m wrong.
