Hunter is getting a Dragon package! Maybe after pushing Dragon Priest (and sort of Warrior and Paladin), they might decide that Hunter will be the next Dragon class? We’ll see. But so far, the Dragon stuff in Hunter doesn’t look particularly strong.
Some of you might remember a Legendary called Maexxna. While it was tried out, ultimately it didn’t see any serious play. While yes, it is one mana more expensive, it has a better stat distribution for a Poisonous minion + it’s a Beast + Poisonous isn’t conditional.
To be completely honest, I don’t think that Hunter would even want the card if the Poisonous was guaranteed. My only idea is some kind of a mixed tribes Hunter deck with Beasts & Dragons – this can serve as one of the Dragon activators. The problem is that there isn’t an awful lot of Neutral Dragon synergies Hunter can take advantage of – Scaleworm is the only one, to be honest. Wyrmguard is a thing, but I don’t think that Hunter is the right deck for it. And would you actually want to run lots of Dragons to just activate Scaleworm?
Might be better in the future because it’s a Dragon, if Hunter gets more Dragon synergies. Right now I’m not sold.
Card rating: 4/10
Although this is a Niche 5 mana, This is more for Anti Preist; or Anti Taunt since there will be times were you need to get rid of that High Health Enemy Minion, but you yourself need some form of Protection and Health.
This Card almost Did it. ALMOST.
3 Star Card.
The card itself is quite nice, but in what hunter deck would you use it exactly ?
Baku hunter maybe ? Stalling with it to pack more Ballista shots ?
Paring Dragons and Hunters together does seem a bit odd, but so does doing that with Priests and the player base is used to that shipping. Dragon tribal decks, or tribal decks in general outside of Murlocs, do tend to be midrange in nature, so Hunter’s generally midrange play style can work with it. However, there just isn’t the support for it yet.
This card though is pretty decent. The condition isn’t hard to meet, the stat line is pretty good, and it can probably kill a couple mid-sized minions by itself. If it does have Poisonous, the 7 health will probably require at least a couple cards to deal with too. The 5 drop spot in hunter has tended to be pretty bare outside of stuff like Bittertide Hydra, so this could end up getting a slot in Midrange Hunter. Granted, the lack of a beast tag might be enough to make it not see play in that deck.
Dragon Hunters will probably use this if that deck ever gets enough traction, but it seeing play in more traditional Hunter archetypes is up in the air at the moment.
If you’re gonna give Hunter some Dragons, give them at least one Duskbreaker or Drakonid OP. With the current dragons in Hunter, they’re not gonna see play. And why oh why is Hunter barely receiving beasts in a heavily-packed beast expansion? Is this for real?
As to the card: nothing too impressive. Aimed at midrange-style of Deck, and could be very good with the Rush legendary. 3/5 stars.
That’s honestly not bad at all. Given how difficult it is to kill Sunkeeper Tarim most of the time this will stick to the field quite nicely.
Dragon Hunter is a thing now ?
