Good in a Lucentbark deck.
Control decks aren’t that hard up for extra copies of a specific minion, and combo decks will have a hard time finding their clutch card consistently. There might be some specific deck/meta that could make it work, though. Might be ok with the Shaman Quest?
This is a useful card for Highlander decks since it could put a single valuable minion back into the deck.
Also usefull for things like battlecry shaman maybe even conjurer mage to get back a giant. Highlights are shuffling controls or legendaries back into the deck especially if they have battlecries.
Just like u said, its for very important minions on combo decks, you could now just play your essential minion without fear of losing it forever
I really like this card. I think it fits really well in a battlecry deck (Shaman quest is an obvious one) and possibly singletons decks.
Why so many stars. 4 mana for a 4/4 that doesn’t do anything? Maybe some combo potential. 2 stars.
Could be a play to get archivist elysiana back a second time in control warrior. Probably not likely enough though.

Shadow Essence is back but as a Neutral Body. It has a Delay for your card to come back though. 4 Stars.

Maybe he refers to a Shadow Essence card we don’t know. Because the Shadow Essence I know has no similarities to this card, just like you said.
What Warpten said: you have to draw the minion, you have to play and hence pay for it. In other words it can’t cheat minions out as Shadow Essence does
