I like this combined with Arcane Breath. 5 mana, summon a 2/3 +2 spell damage, deal 4 damage to a minion, draw a dragon and spell? That’s a lot of synergy, and works well within a package. I could see this in Reno Mage or a dragon mage deck. Probably a solid 3 star card that sees play as part of a dragon package. Spell damage in mage adds up really quickly if you don’t remove this minion.
I’ll rate this a 4/5 it would have been 3/5 just for artwork looks cute I want a pet azure explorer. The ability though is ouch there’s not exactly to much in the way of a BAD dragon to discover. Most of the dragons either have useful powers or food stat lines.
Potential alternative to cosmic anomaly after rotation. İm not sure about the stats tho 3/5
It will be played in dragon mage, ignored outside of it.
What do you want from me.
The developers nearly broke the game.
So basically hearthstone has said before that they start working on expansions around a year in advance, and that by the time the previous expansion is implemented into the game, the next expansion is done. This means that this and all of the other dragon cards similar to this one must have been completed around the time Uldum was released.
Why is this important? Well, if you remember, a few weeks into Uldum, discover was changed. The old discover used to have all discover cards be more likely to choose a class card than a neutral one. This means that this and all other dragons that discover a dragon would have been more likely to discover dragons from their class. blizzard created these cards while the old discover rules were in place, and had the meta not called for a change, blizzard may have put these dragons into the game with the old discover effect. This is a problem.
Considering that the 3 classes to receive a dragon that discovers a dragon are 3 of the 4 “hero classes”, I think it’s safe to assume paladin will be getting one of these as well. Of these classes, hunter is the only one that is not a problem (because they have 2 class dragons, one which just sucks and emeriss, which is way too slow for hunter) The other 3 classes, on the other hand, have some issues.
Let’s start with druid. Their dragon is a 4/8 taunt for 6; already a very good statline that will play really nicely on turn 6 when combined with that dragon ramp card. To understand what cards we would likely be seeing with the old discover, we have to look at what dragons druid currently has. None. They don’t have any dragons. There have been 2 druid dragons revealed; this and their version of ysera. They might also be getting another dragon this expansion that hasn’t been revealed. If the druid ysera was actually good (we can’t be sure it isn’t but to me it just looks bad), this would have been a huge problem. Still though, with only 2-3 class dragons, it is incredibly likely you will be offered to discover itself, and if poorly stated cards frequently enjoy discovering themselves (stonehill defender is the best example), this would have been a nightmare to deal with.
Paladin: Paladin dodges a major bullet with bronze herald, which is not an unfair card. However, hitting either the new nozari, the old nozari (great card to have 2 of) or itself (we don’t know what this card will be yet, but based on the looks of the other ones we can assume it probably has decent stats/effects). Having 3/4 class options be very powerful is just too good and not fair, especially because one of those options is itself, which gives another oppurtunity to discover itself or a nozari.
Mage: Mage is the real problem here. Currently, mage has one dragon; Kalecgos. Also, the mage malygos has been revealed and is a dragon as well. This means that this card has 3 class options that would have been more likely to appear. Kalecgos, a very powerful and highly used legendary that can swing games, the mage malygos, which has a very powerful effect to really drive and encourage the use of dragon mage, and itself. If this card discover itself, it gives another chance to hit one of the 2 legendary dragons mentioned above. This means that there is (or would have been without the change) a near guaranteed 2nd copy of a game-swinging card. This is not fair at all, and would have been a complete nightmare to deal with.
I can’t believe it, but I think control warrior and dr boom being too overpowered just saved us from another bs mage deck meta.
Hey, it’s a Remodeled Azure Drake. Cool. the 4 Mana 2/3 is rough, but it’s asking you to ACTUALLY play a damaging spell, and not just playing it for the sake for recycling. Mage is annoying enough with Freezes, and Yes this does also increase Flame Ward’s Damage, but his an Interesting card to have nonetheless. I think this is as balanced as they could have put it, because on how much frustration Hearthstone probably tried to put the balance with this card. 1 Mana Less, and it’s too Ridiculous. 1 Extra Health or Mana and it might be too strong. I think it’s perfectly fine how it is. 4 Stars.
The cutie dragon of the expansion
It seems a generally good card, that is just overall effective enough to see play at least in Highlander mage. Of course it’s good in a dragon mage and of course it’s bad in tempo mage.
Stupid dragons, only 3 classes run them really, it’s just because eVeRyOnE lOvES DrAgOnS
Holy fukin hyped trash!!
I would beg to differ on that one… This card has a lot of potential. 4 is rough but it is doing a lot…
break it down…
2 mana 2/3
1 mana +2 SpellD
1 Discover
Probably every dragon mage that comes out will run this card… It might be hard to play on turn 4 in some match-ups… but leaving +2 spell damage on board is never smart…
