Amani War Bear Card Review

Amani War Bear seems to be better than your average pack filler (useless Neutral common that is there just to increase the number of cards in set), but it doesn’t seem good enough to be viable in Constructed.

Rush and Taunt is a pretty weird combination too. On the one hand, you want your Taunt minions to be as healthy as possible, but on the other, you want to run Rush minions into something right away.

Beast tag is the card’s saving grace. I was thinking about Deathrattle Hunter, but here’s the thing – Witchwood Grizzly seems to be a better Taunt card (less attack, but usually more health in matchups that matter and significantly cheaper + gets full stats if summoned and not played), while Charged Devilsaur seems to be a better “rush” card (more attack, can also attack face if summoned, which is big). This is something in between – a bit more flexible, but not as good as one specific role.

Maybe if some kind of Big Beast Druid pops out, it might make a cut? After all, pulling it with Oondasta or reviving with Witching Hour seems good. But at the same time, until Charged Devilsaur is still in Standard, you’d probably want that one instead (since it lets you become more aggressive).

Or maybe even Odd Quest Warrior? Regular version has some more big Taunts to work with compared to the Odd version (e.g. Primordial Drake and The Lich King), so it could POSSIBLY fit in there. But I don’t think it does enough for its stats in a deck like that.

It’s a solid Arena card, but doesn’t seem to be good enough to make a cut in Constructed.

    Not tried it, but seems like it could be a good fit in the new Rush warrior builds with Spirit of the Rhino? That way you get to Rush and keep all the health for the Taunt.

    Muck Hunter might still do better that that deck tho, especially with Blood Razor to take out the Mucklings.

    this is actually a good and solid card in my opinion, why so low rating?

      Low rating is because you need to find a place for it in constructed decks. What kind of deck are you going to play it in? Not in aggro, it’s too aggressive and doesn’t advance your game plan. Not in combo, where you want your defensive options to be cheap and cost-efficient. What about Control? Which card are you going to cut out to put this in? The Lich King? Your Death Knight hero card? Zilliax? No, no, and no.

      This is mostly a way for Spiteful Summoner and Astromancer 7-drops to stop being so abysmal.

        I’m gonna play it in my big recruit Hunter, and what now smart-ass? There is always a place for a big boi like this in Recruit Hunter deck.

        INB4: Hurr durr, recruit hunter is not even good.
        Well, ofc ;’) Just keep playin your odd paladin for higher rankings. I’m gonna sit here in rank 5, and have fun instead.

    Y’all suckers haven’t seen the potential this has for Big Quest Star Aligner Druid

    5+ attack? CHECK
    Rush + Taunt for adapting vs. inevitable board pressure? CHECK
    And more importantly 7 health?! CHECK CHECK CHECK

    Would be nicer at 6 mana, but it’s going to be pushing tier 2 just wait…

    Echoing what Stonekeep said, seems a cross between Witchwood Grizzly and Charged Devilsaur. Though when dropping Winterwisp, to pull out WWG when you need CD or vice-versa is frustrating (like having to choose between cake or donuts) but this would be useful regardless of how your game is going.

    Also a great cube/playdead target, the (almost) damage of CD with the stickiness of WWG.

    I feel it will be used as a cheap alternative yo some of the other big beasts, and will see play in a few beast decks.

    Amani War Bear is fine in Arena as it will usually clear at least two mid-sized minions and will always kill one if played properly.

    For constructed though, it’s unlikely going to see much when there are better options.

    First: there is probably no reason to use my hitpoints from my maybe only defence i got on board.
    But: in most cases you have to trade, maybe hunter spellstone with 3 3/3 on board. Than i trade into the first of the 3 wolves, cause the enemy may trades into my taunt anyway. (hope thats understandable).
    7 Mana 5/7 taunt first looks okay for a common beast. Maybe good in arena or some budged decks for beginners. Maybe good in Build a beast with lifesteal or poison or smth.
    3,5/5 for me.

      There is one argument for it (not saying it’s a good argument but I’ll present it anyway): It makes your defensive cubes much faster, especially in combination with the new Revenge of the Wild spell: You cube this instead of a Witchwood Grizzly, and activate the cube/revive the eaten mob, you have a wall but it can attack again immediately.

      This costs more than 5 mana so it can’t be selected from build a beast

        oh…forgot about that. I guess the reason is that you cant get above 10 mana right?
        So you choose twice, 10 is max with 5+5… makes sense. Did not thought about it! 🙂
        So it would be manupulative to choose 7 first, and than only 0-3 mana minions in the 2nd choose. That includes Scalehide… that would be sick.
