Rdu just announced a big, new addition to the Battlegrounds game mode. Every hero will get one support minion called “buddy”.
Unlike regular minions, buddies won’t be available in the minion pool. Instead, you will have to fill a progress bar by accomplishing certain tasks:
- Entering combat (passive gain for every turn).
- Dealing damage to enemy minions.
- Popping Divine Shields.
- Winning or tying fights.
Once the bar is filled halfway, you get a single copy of your buddy. Once you fill it fully, you get two more copies of your buddy – so if you kept the original one, it will turn into a triple.
The bar is filled quicker or slower depending on the buddy’s tier:
- Tier 2 Buddy: Turn ~5 (7 Gold) for half and Turn ~9 for full.
- Tier 3 Buddy: Turn ~6 (8 Gold) for half and Turn ~11 for full.
- Tier 4 Buddy: Turn ~7 (9 Gold) for half and Turn ~12 for full.
Buddies are specifically designed to match up with Heroes and synergize with their HP and playstyle.

So , Tamsin’s buddy is her dead father she kill.
Interesting.
Lots of nuttyness there, but Omus and – especially – Death Speaker Blackthorn’s compagnion scare the sh*t out of me…
It’s a shame I’m not BG main player… every time I somewhat learn how to play the mode, they change it 😀
But it’s for the better of the mode, I’m happy for BG mains 🙂
I actually like to watch BG more than play it (Standard is my favorite way to play), so while not directly, the changes make it more fun for me too 🙂 I’m also happy for BG players that they’re getting so much new stuff!
But then again, we’ll have a massive meta change for Standard with rotation in ~2.5 months, so that’s not very far off either.
Ha, absolutely… I wonder how Blizzard will resolve current state of Standard (who would’ve guessed Wild would be more playable… even with Pirates and Q-Hunters making about 66% of D10-Legend meta) and even more – what will they take from this year’s experience into next Core set rotation 🙂
