After launching an official card library recently, Blizzard has surprised everyone and pushed another useful feature – official online deck builder. If you ask me, those two features should be available for years now given how big the game was, but better late than never!
After tinkering around with it for a bit, I have to say that I like it much more than the in-game one. While it could be a bit more intuitive and it lacks a few options, it’s a step in the right direction. The thing I like most about it is that it displays all of the related cards. For example – if you bring up Ysera, you get a full list of Dream cards. Or when you zoom into Wild Growth, Excess Mana is displayed in related cards. That’s a feature which is long due in the in-game deck builder. More experienced players don’t really find it problematic, but new players have to search for all of the related cards online, even though it’s the info that SHOULD be present in game. It’s not a huge inconvenience, but something that I hope will be addressed in the near future. Especially since it already works in some cases – e.g. Hero cards DO display their new Hero Powers already.
Once you finish building a deck, you can either share a deck code or a direct link to the deck builder page. Right now there’s no way to save the deck (other than save the link/code), name it, add description etc. which is offered by every third-party deck builder. There’s also no database of deck built by other players you can look through. So the official deck builder still has a long way to go, despite already being better than its in-game counterpart.
We still hope that you will stay with us, though! 🙂
I dont see the point in this, most of us would just net deck anyway, any one smart enough or serious enough about the game they are about to play will most times go to youtube, learn about the basics and check for the latest beginners deck. That is me looking at a mirror before i started making my own decks. Most informations are either in some website or in youtube. To me, this feels like a waste of energy and time from the creators. This idea would have been better years ago.
I suspect this might be a stepping stone for future, broader projects–e.g., a way for players to manage their actual deck library through an HTML interface, or a tool that can reference their library and leverage AutoComplete to show them decks that they’re close to crafting, or maybe just a new way for Blizzard to data mine what cards/archetype players are interested in.
