Game Designer Dean “Iksar” Ayala has shared the rating distribution for Battlegrounds players. It’s quite interesting, because it’s not something that the game tells you. The numbers are even more elusive for Battlegrounds, because there are no ranks – all you have is your MMR, which makes it harder to compare you to the playerbase. With ranks, you have some sort of reference – you know that Bronze is low, Platinum is pretty nice and Legend is only hit by the top few % of the players.
Anyway, here’s the current rating distribution for BG:
- <5000 – 64% of Players
- 5500 – Top 25%
- 6000 – Top 17%
- 6500 – Top 10%
- 7000 – Top 6%
- 8000 – Top 3%
- 9000 – Top 1%
Those stats don’t take inactive players into account – they only include players who have played at least 5 Battlegrounds games in the last 20 days.
I have to say that I’m quite a bit surprised by them. I play BG really casually, maybe 1 match per day on average, and I’m around 8k rating. When looking at streamers with 13-15k rating, I thought that 8k has to be significantly lower – maybe 10% or even 15%.
And what do you think about it? What’s your current rating? Are you higher or lower (compared to other players) than you thought?
if these oh so humble players that dont really care about their rating are really telling the truth i would like to see a screenshot as proof.

You all are full of crap, a win gets me just over 100 points, I’m sitting at 4400 with 20 wins and 74 top 4 rankings. Don’t listen to these fools in the comments.
Wow, i’m pretty confused by those stats. I’m not even playing this game, and i’m also 8.500 rating.
yeah idk reading this makes me feel mediocre, since i started playing bg around 1 month, did a little tryout and mostly just mess around, buying random units that seem cool. i play mostly 1, maybe 2 games a day but im mostly watching some streams so i miss sometimes to play. i think i had my rating around 8500 or 8600, but idc about it at all.
I don’t understand why my battleground rating is so low in comparison to others. I just started playing BG’s about a month ago and I’m addicted. According to my stats, I’ve played 99 hours. I’ve been in the Top four 141 times and came in first place 13 times. My battleground rating is only 4,273. Either I really suck at battlegrounds or something is calculating correctly. I haven’t watched any Youtube videos or read any tutorials. Maybe I should start? lol

Yeah I just started doing BG’s like 2 weeks ago for the first time ever, I queued up a couple times here and there, nothing serious. I think my rating was around 9200 or something last time I checked. I’d actually probably be a bit higher but I was playing on a 3G network and got disconnected a lot during most of my games. *shrugs*
There’s no way this is true. You start at 0 rating and if you get first place you get around 92-126 rating from what I remember. That means if you only got first place, which I refuse to believe, since you disconnected and for things like a Cap’n Hoggarr composition you need good internet connection. You would need to play 45 hours a week. Which is def something serious.

Not only did you completely miss his sarcastic comment, but you also failed to mention that first places on accounts that start at 0 give you up to 300 points per win. You can get to 6000 in 20 games if you play really well and get some luck at times.
hey guys, I plugged in the data to an online curve fitting calculator and generated a rating graph. So you can guess even more closely how you stack up by percentage of players. I’m not a very good player, but I’m a pretty good geek! The current META is raw stat focused for like the first 7ish rounds, level early and try YOLO a core card from an early triple to finish . The BG skill ceiling has been lowered to the ability to count. Biiig Staaaaaats Go BrrBrrrrr
I play on average like 2-3 games a day and I’m at 10k300 and I’m on phone too. I think it’s mainly due to the fact that I watch at least 2-3 games from streamers a day. But I also thought that the top 1% would be way higher like around 12K.
Really no offence, just an honest question: 8k with ONE match on average per day? Your winrate must be astronomical, otherwise idk how one can achieve that.
I play like 3-6 matches on average per day, sometimes getting 1st and 2nd winstreaks and sometimes doing the same with 5-7th losing streaks. Highest rating I ever got was 6.2something …
Especially since the meta got midrange fastkill (at least around 5.5 where I’m right now) it is extremely difficult to rank on top constantly. *shrug*

Sure, numbers are good, why not publish this for all modes.
I wanna know my Ranked MMR and top legend players MMR too, not just BG initially.

I’m really surprised – and maybe a bit dismayed – by this distribution. I play BG almost daily and mostly hover around 5k. I guess I’ve taken some hits chasing achievements, but I guess I’m not as good as I thought or there are just a LOT of people who play a TON.
Present i’m on the 64 %, basically i’m on 5k without do nothing (play dead almost all the time)
I’m 3.5k ish though I doubt you’ll get too many people owning up to that. I’ve only started playing relatively recently this reset. I had over 5k maybe last reset and that was good enough for me, battlegrounds just takes so much time to play a match, they need to shorten the round times even more especially the first 4 or so.
Only 4k here. Too many mistakes, and in some turns, I’m too slow to use all gold available.
And also only 2 heroes to chose from (I won’t pay for the pass as long as arena tickets are included).
I thought ~8k would be lower % too. I’m at 8968 right now and I am F2P, so only have 2 heroes to choose between. I always choose heroes I haven’t placed 1st with yet to try to get the achievements, so I’m guessing if I picked the good heroes I would be even higher, that’s why I am surprised 9k is top 1%. I have won 1st place with 41 different heroes so far. BGs was such a good addition to Hearthstone!
Very impressive. I have you by a few heroes (44) but I have 6k rank, lol. The achievements made battlegrounds fun for me again. Just playing best hero gets kinda repetitive.
Don’t think ill get that afk the third turn though any time soon.
Yea some achievements are ridiculous but those come down to good decision making AND luck. Especially Spicy Pretzel Mustard (can’t tie or lose a match)
I play 1-2 games per day on average and mostly doing dumb stuff instead of sticking to consistent builds/Heroes. I sit between 6 and 6.5k
