Battlegrounds Matchmaking Update – Need 3 Turns To Fight Against The Same Player Instead of 2

The update was already mentioned in the last patch notes, but it didn’t come out at the time – it was supposed to be released at a later date. It seems that the later date is now, because the patch is here! Keep in mind that it’s a server-side patch, so you don’t need to download anything.

The patch has updated in-game matchmaking for Battlegrounds. Right now, you can’t face the same player twice in a row, but you can face him every second fight. For example, you might face A.F.Kay on Round 3, and then again on Round 5. This will no longer be the case – you will need at least two turns of “break” between facing the same player. That’s, of course, until only two players are left – then you will fight the same person over and over again.

Of course, in terms of balance, it won’t really matter (because you face the best player all the time as often as you face the worst player all the time), but it should make your Battlegrounds games more diverse and less frustrating at times.

Hey everyone,

We mentioned in the 16.2 Patch Notes that we were adjusting Battlegrounds matchmaking – this is now live via a small server-side patch (meaning you don’t have to download anything).

This change adjusts the algorithm that determines which opponent you face each round. You will no longer face the same player, or Kel’Thuzad, more than once in every 3 combat rounds (unless there are 2 players remaining).

Sounds like a good change, was frustrating sometimes when an enemy got too much ahead of the rest and the game keeps matching you against them…

Btw… is there an explanation somewhere about how the matchmaking is made INSIDE these matches? Is it random or is it acording to your possition or some hidden rating or something?

In-game matchmaking against other players is just random there’s no hidden rating or anything.

Hm. Played last night at 01:00 CET and still got paired against one opponent more often than should be possible regarding this description…

Also, why is it that I get paired against AFK the first round she’s active in EVERY F***ING BG game she’s in?

    Yeah, last one’s a rant.

Maybe the changes rolled out a bit later on EU server, I wouldn’t be surprised.

And yeah, facing AFK in Round 3 really sucks. I’m not a big fan of that Hero design. It’s fun to play as, but it’s not fun for the few players facing you in R3 and the next couple of rounds (when you still have an advantage).
