Announcing Battlegrounds Season 8, Launching On August 20!

After yesterday’s teaser, Blizzard just dropped a full-blown announcement of the upcoming Battlegrounds season. It launches on August 20 with a unique Trinket mechanic, as well as tons of other updates.

Let’s start with trinkets – they are a special, passive power-ups (sometimes also with an immediate effect) that you can buy at certain points in the match. There are two types of trinkets – Lesser Trinkets show up on Turn 6 and Greater Trinkets on Turn 9. You can only buy one of each type (out of the four offered), so choose wisely. There are 56 Lesser and 60 Greater Trinkets in total, varying in Gold cost and effects. Many Trinkets will come in both versions (Lesser & Greater) so you can double up on their effects, but there will also be many Trinkets that are unique to each tier.

The system is also dynamic, so the Trinkets offered and their price is influenced by the Hero you play, minion types available in the lobby, your current Warband, and so on. This way you should always get Trinkets that are somewhat useful for you, to reduce the bad RNG.

Besides Trinkets, we’re getting a new Hero (with new mechanic synergy) – Marin the Manager. The minion pool will also see a lot of changes, with 27 new and 18 returning minions to replace 38 ones that will be removed. Two new Tavern Spells will also be added. All of those (besides Marin and a few Trinkets from the blog post) will be revealed over the next week or so. We’ll be tracking all of the reveals here if you want to stay up to date.

And finally, as always, everything will be reset at the Season launch. All players will be back to 0 MMR and a rewards track will refresh. So if you haven’t finished the current one, you still have some time until August 20.

With Season 8, Battlegrounds Ratings will reset (for both regular Battlegrounds and Duos) and Buddies will rotate out of the Tavern to make room for new Trinkets.

New Mechanic: Trinkets

Trinkets are special passive power-ups that you buy with Gold and use for the rest of the game—kind of like Quest Rewards. Trinkets are offered twice per game: on turns 6 and 9. Each offering, you’ll get 4 Trinkets to choose from.

In total, there are 56 Lesser Trinkets (turn 6) and 60 Greater Trinkets (turn 9) coming in Season 8! Some Trinkets have a Lesser and a Greater version–letting you diversify or double-up on your effects!

Your Trinket offerings and their Costs are influenced by your Hero, the Minion Types in the game, and your Warband to ensure you’ll always be offered something exciting to build from.

New Hero: Marin the Manager

Want a special Trinket offer? Speak to the Manager! Marin the Manager is coming to Battlegrounds in Season 8, bringing you an extra Trinket—and one turn early, to boot!
