Mossy Horror Card Review
This is a neutral Shadow Word: Horror on a stick. For 2 more mana, you get a 2/7 minion, which is actually quite good. For example, Book Wyrm was a 2 mana spell on a stick (Shadow Word: Pain) and you had to pay 4 mana for the 3/6 body. Which wasnβt that bad, to be fair, the card has seen a fair share of play. But this one is even better.
However, there are two problems with this card. Horror was often used on the curve to deal with Aggro boards β this one canβt do the same thing. Aggro Paladin plays Call to Arms and you just canβt wait two more turns to deal with it. Another problem is the lack of Pint-Size Potion. While SW: Horror was often decent even without it, the Pint-Size pushed it into the βgreat removalβ range, as you could deal with anything up to 5 Attack, which is a huge difference.
That said, the fact that itβs neutral and that it can still counter lots of plays in the mid/late game, I think that it can be good. For example, Paladins can still play that Call to Arms past Turn 6. Druid can play Spreading Plague or Living Mana depending on the deck. It could also be good against some Control Warlock boards, with cards like Voidwalker (from Voidlord), Stonehill Defender etc. Can be used to hit those pesky Northshire Clerics and Radiant Elementals against Priest. Itβs also great against Shaman, because it destroys all of the Totems, as well as some common minions (e.g. Fire Fly, Hot Spring Guardian).
This card will mostly be a meta call. If lots of board flood type of decks will be played, or cards that summon multiple 0-2 Attack minions will be popular, then this is going to be a great choice. If not, well, the answer is simple. I actually quite like this card, itβs not overpowered, but it can work very well in the right meta.
Oh, and itβs a good candidate to play in the Lady in White deck. The difference between 2/7 and 7/7 is huge. After Lady in White, it will be playable even if it doesnβt hit anything.
Card rating: My guess is 7/10, but it heavily depends on the amount of 2 or less Attack minions in the upcoming meta.
At first glance I thought this new card was Shrek the ogre… It would be hilarious to hear the green-skinned ogre say something like “For the Horde!” though lol
they will print Shrek the ogre if Senfglass wins world
wont see play, i’ll tell u that
This looks pretty op If You compare this with shadow Word: horror, i mean if You subtract 4 mana (horrors cost) it’s a 2 mana 2/7.
One thing that makes this card worse though is the loss of pint size- potion
Wow, thats exactly what the review said
Hands down best art of the set. Its literally straight from monsters inc.
lady in white approved.
I would love this guy to see play just because of how dorky he looks
Looks like a tech card. Very nice to remove Spreading Plague, Voidwalkers from Voidlords and later Call to Arms. I’m still hoping CtA gets nerfed to 5 mana. It’s also neutral. So I can see people running one of this for the situational swing. 3.5 out of 5 stars.
I totaly agree!! What the f*** are they waiting for nerf CtA?? This card is totaly oppressiv in standard AND wild.
It s just winning by playing brainlessly a OP card on the curve…
playing it on curve won’t nessesarily help you though. By turn five your opponent will likely have minions with over 2 attack on the board
I was talking of CtA in fact
Not really op. Only against aggro. And dont say its brainless to play this, when all aggro cards are a lot more broken. Just talking about tunnel trogg, patches and all other bullshit cards, that won the game just going face. It is a problem, when that strategy is better than controll.
In my opinion Blizzard should push controll decks, so they are better, because they promote skillful play as there is descision making. Aggro deck then can exist, because controll decks fight, who has the bigger deck, but if they get beaten up by aggro they can tech cards to destroy aggro.
Would be nice if Blizzard is shifting Hearthstone to a slower meta.
And to my knowledge, all nerfed cards were mostly aggro cards.
Totaly agree ! I was talking of CtA not mossy Horror. Just read mβy comment
it would be better for 5 mana to counter CTA, still good
oney is that you?
i thought the same, haha
The most powerful neutral card of the set. Staple for classes with no removal.
Voodoo Doll says hi,
Voodoo doll may as well be a mage/warrior card, it is bad corruption everywhere else. This is good in any control class.
We’ll see which one gets played most. For me this is just a tech card. Voodoo Doll can be fitted almost anywhere.
It’s actually an amazing counter to one of the most annoying cards ever printed, spreading plague.
STOP MAKING PRIEST GREAT AGAIN
Priest hardly played shadow word: horror, which is better than this card. If anything, this card is equally useful to all classes
If you really think Shadow word: horror was hardly played you’ve been playing too little. It was fairly common, especially paired with pint-sized potion and such. Besides that this card is BETTER. It’s a Oasis Snapjaw and Shadow word: horror in one, but for 2 mana less.
It’s allso 2 mana to late against agro π
You don’t play it for the body but for the removal. As said by Xix, it comes 2 turns later than shadow word horror. And no, i didn’t play too little but i simply meant that it never was too relevant. Highlander priest stopped playing it after a few months, big priest was never too prevalent and the current control priest has only been here for the past few weeks…
Wtf. Thanks for ruining the only tool druid had against aggro (spreading plague).
Only suicidal aggro decks would play this card, since it’s meant to counter them π
Aggro can easily buff minions over 2 attack. Give it 2 seconds before replying nonsense ?
While anti Aggro tools have been used in Aggro decks in the past, they have been cards like tar teepee which have good bodies, this is an effect that counters your own stuff, even if you are playing a deck that buffs minions this would still kill one or two sometimes making it a terrible when your not countering spreading plague. There is no way an Aggro deck will run a card that literally kills half there board most of the time to counter a single card. And next time donβt be so patronizing ?
Losing 1 or 2 instead of 7 seems like a good deal for aggro. 2<7 there you go, easier now right?
I would be rather suprised if an aggro deck “shadow word horrors” themselves, because of one class that looks rather dead the upcoming expansion. But give it 2 seconds before replying nonsense.
What kind of aggro deck would include this, rofl?
This also counters the 1/3 taunts that spawn off of Void Lord as well as the 1/5 taunts from Spreading Plague.
yeah, all the cards revealed so far has nothing that support current aggro pally, both murloc and dude. in fact, it’s trying to bring pally back as midrange buffing like way back before un’goro
People need to stop saying “LADY IN WHITE” for every card that has high health and low attack.
Can we remember that LIW is legendary, most likely not tutorable, and you cannot run a deck around it fully?!?!?
By the time you Lady in white in to this, Dude Pally has done lethal (as LIW doesn’t have taunt), or buffed them to 3/3s making this irrelevant.
This is a good card, and will see play as a tech or as a piece of a combo, it is not broken, nor crap. Good cards like this are positive for the game. They encourage deck design and variability. What it shouldn’t do is make people blurt out best case scenarios…
Well, pair this with the priest that casts inner fire on all cards in your deck, and you got a 7/7 body with decent board clear at 6 mana.
good design, good card
New shadow word Horror and nice synergy with the lady in white. I like where this is going.
SWH was mainly used with Pint-Sized Potion though … and that’s also rotating out.
This is basically a counter to Dude Paladin but that’s about it … it gives you a chance to clear the weenies just before they drop Tarim.
while I like the card, one problem I noticed right away, if you’re destroying all minions with 2 or less attack (usually with 2 or 3 hp), the minion itself becomes quite useless. 2 attack trades nicely in small minions, but you just killed them so there’s nothing to kill. cool effect, but the body doesn’t match it’s effect
2/5
Except if you pair it with Lady In White, then it has a really big body.
Nice try, but Call to Arms still need a nerf…
Between this and Lord Godfrey, it’s looking like a much slower meta β with the popular pally decks, Silver Hand and Murloc, basically doomed
yeah, all the cards revealed so far has nothing that support current aggro pally, both murloc and dude. in fact, it’s trying to bring pally back as midrange buffing like way back before un’goro
Nice tech vs aggro/token/murloc decks
So its like better Kodo for 1 more mana, insane neutral.
Neutral minion Shadow Word: Horror
Ok folks, we now have to make that aldor peacekeeper, humility, kodo, scorp-o-matic deck with this, it just has to happen.
Could be nice counter against pally…
