So the trend of cheating out 3 cost minions as 2 cost Hunter Secrets continues.
This isn’t that good because it has to go off on your opponent’s turn, so they get to choose how to deal with it.
Also, aggro decks might not trade for a few turns, meaning this is way too slow.
4/10, just not seeing it.
This seems like a decent card, the only problem is that usually posinous minions are usually designed to install kill big minions that are going to attack your face or trade with other minions. Once this trap triggers chances are that would have already happened.
It seems that Hunter will remain as a “poor”, f2p and near tier2 max spot again…
Even if we consider that they focus on wild too, hunter is like tier1.5 as a secret/face archetype but overall isn’t competitive at higher ranks.
This secret is garbage… Hunter has so many better options on secrets that can’t cut them to add this boosted snake trap.
Hunter needs draw secret engine like mage, need more midrange cards and at least 1 viable new weapon.
Till then will remain as a tier2…
Hunter was my 1st main char that made gold and gave me 11 wins in arena and rank1 in ranked… That was 2 years ago, since then can’t play with him over rank10… That’s so unpleasant.
I try to make a control hunter in each expansion, so cards like this are exciting. It’s one more secret for the new legendary and you should be running taunt in control so nearly guaranteed to at least proc this secret. It’s hard removal that isn’t totally reliable, but if it’s good enough to eat frostbolt and costs 0 or 2, it’s probably good to play.
Runs into same problem as snake trap. Opponents can go several turns without attacking your minions, using removal, etc. By the time the snake hits, your opponent had a big enough lead for it to not matter. Face decks will just face you and control will just use spot removal aoe so it takes forever to trigger and by then they can deal with it.
Useful against midrange and board focused decks but that’s a fairly narrow use.
I agree. With its narrow use I don’t think it would be played in a secret hunter deck. Its just another secret to add to the pool of secrets that professor patricide will play. I think its good for the set and secret hunter deck but not a direct submission.
OP card.
Eh, your opponent will just kill it before you can get value out of it most of the time. Idk, this just isn’t enough in my opinion. As a long time hunter player, I am aware how underwhelming hunter has been since the Kharazan. Hunter is probably the worst class overall (Yes, I’m aware warlock is more dead but warlock has been tier 1 almost every other expansion), and this is NOT enough. There are so many ways this card can just flop. The difference between 2 and 3 mana in a controlly deck you would put this in is irrelevant, so you’re just summoning an Emperor Cobra.
I am not optimistic for control Hunter because it has never worked. NEVER. Zero legit card draw (Stampede does not count), zero healing, little to no AOE, stupidly low consistency, tragically low combo potential, and a hero power that is completely useless in a control deck.
The cute little cards that have been shown so far are being rated good because they would be good in other classes. This is not the right mindset. This is HUNTER, therefore, if it costs more than 6 mana and/or doesn’t SMORC, it’s trash tier. Hunters don’t have great synergies other than beast gimmics. They can’t summon a spell damage minion from their hero power, they can’t summon 0 mana 5/5s or 0 mana 8/8s. They can’t draw half their deck with GA, they can’t draw secrets for free, cheat death, and then burn 13 damage with freeze into your opponent’s face. They can’t summon infinite tokens and then get a million burst damage, they can’t create a 32/32 silenced Humongous Razorleaf, they can’t summon three pirates and a weapon on turn 1, they can’t compete for board against a board of monstrously big murlocs with windfury on turn 4, they can’t have 2-3 Tirion Fordrings and 2-3 Sunkeepers in the same deck, AND they have to rely on a shitty 3 mana 3/2 weapon they put in every deck.
This card might see play…maybe. But a slower hunter deck is going to suck juat as much as it always does. The ONLY way there is hope is for hunter to get some actual form of healing. Because face it, having board control in the late game is not enough. The only control decks that are successful have healing. Hunter has no healing. Therefore, it will become Mage’s plaything.
Isn’t it strange how throughout all the pedictions over the years, hunter cards are the ones that has remained consistent in that they suck if they don’t smorc?
Open your eyes, people. Hunter is going to need some OP shit for this to work.
THIS.
I have never seen Control Hunter played (or if I have, they were dead before I recognized it). I play Hunter a lot too (Secret Face & Midrange), and agree completely – the reveals have been mostly sub-par, and this Control-oriented stuff just wastes Hunter class card slots.
Instead, why not let Hunter be Hunter, and do something bold like Neutral spells or multi-class builds?
I have tried making a slow Hunter deck each expansion and there are times where I get close to something very viable, they just run out cards later in the game and also have a hard time board clearing.
I saw this card yesterday and I think it might actually be a viable card, I am currently in debate of whether or not I should replace a secret or two in my Secret deck with this. If it was a giant wasp I would like this card a lot. At the same time though being a 2/3 puts it out of range of a couple more AoE such as Volcanic Potion, DemonWrath, low-roll lightning storm, explosive sheep, explosive trap, and Primordal Drake.
There’s a Venomstrike in my boot!
Control-secret-putricide-combo deck incoming :D:D
Tier S at rank 19!
Love this secret. Glad to see hunters finally getting some control/power cards. Last few expansions for hunters have been pretty lackluster. Hoping we can see so kind of hunter come into the meta that isn’t just face hunter.
WOW, secret hunter would be viable?
