Mulligans
This deck takes a vastly different approach to the Ressurection Priest that’s very popular in the current meta. It doesn’t include Y’shaarj or ‘N Zoth, but I can imagine that variations of this deck with those cards could exist.
Playstyle (notice that cards have very different functions against different decks):
Against Aggro decks: The main goal against aggro decks like a lot of hunter decks, is to stay alive in the early turns, once you survived the early turns, you will most likely win. To survive in the early turns, you can use cards like Shadow Word: Pain, Smite, Shadow Madness… etc. Once you survived the first turns, you will want to draw into Priest of the Feast, Barnes, Injured Blademaster… Priest of the feast allows you to heal up again, Barnes will almost guaranteed give you a useful that you can also silence or resurrect, and injured blademaster is a decent body which you can heal or resurrect. Another option is to use thoughtsteal and mind vision to use your opponents cards against them, they also provide cheap heals in combination with priest of the feast. After these turns you will most likely have board control and win when you just stay alive and taking it easy. Minions like Sylvanas and Arcane Giant will help you to stay on top in the later turns.
Against Control decks: You obviously don’t have to put as much effort into staying alive the first turns as with Aggro decks. You can mostly take it easy and hold on to cards like Smite to use in combination with Malygos for a big damage turn. You can use priest of the feast to stay at high health and there are plenty of cards to let the opponent take some initial damage. In the late game, you can finish your opponent by the Malygos OTK (although this is hard and requires careful planning) or a combination of Malygos with Arcane Giant, Baron Geddon, Mind Control,… Some notable changes against Aggro decks are the usage of smite for damage, silence to silence your opponents minions instead of the minions acquired by Barnes or as cheap heal for Priest of the feast, Baron Geddon as a big damage minion instead of as a board clear etc…
Tested this deck yesterday on rank 7-8: 6 wins, 2 losses.
Baron Geddon truly is the sleeper hit of this deck, it has won me multiple games by clearing the opponents board and still leaving me with some Injured minions.
I’d remove 1 excavated evil for something else, it was mostly a dead card when I had it.
