Earlier today, shop was updated and we’ve got two new bundles you can purchase. One of them is actually a pretty good deal (given how much Hearthstone costs in the first place), and the other one… well… it might be for you if you’re a massive marine mammal sometimes mistaken for a fish.
Let’s start with the first bundle. For $19.99, you get:
- 10x United in Stormwind Card Pack
- 10x Standard Card Pack
- 2x Legendary Card from United in Stormwind
Overall, it’s a pretty nice deal. You get the usual $1 per pack price, with two extra Legendaries for free. Like always, it depends on your luck and what are you still missing – if you get two great Legendaries you wanted, you saved yourself 3.2k Dust, which is obviously amazing. It might have saved you having to open tens of packs. On the other hand, if you get two bad ones that you don’t care about… 800 Dust isn’t nothing, but it could have been better. Whether Standard packs are better or worse than United in Stormwind ones really depends on your collection. If you have most of the cards from Stormwind, but e.g. miss a lot of cards from one of the other Standard sets, it should be a better pack type. Thanks to the duplicate protection, it can fill the gaps in your collection nicely. Overall, if you want to spend money on the game, it’s a great value and you should consider it.
Then, we’ve got the second bundle. Apparently, this bundle doesn’t show up for everyone. It probably uses the “targeting” system Blizzard has been implementing for a while now. I don’t know what requirements you have to meet to see it, but I would assume that it takes how much you spend on the game into account (no reason to show it for people who don’t really buy anything because they certainly won’t buy this out of all the deals). For $39.99, you get:
- 10x Golden United in Stormwind Card Pack
- 1x Golden Legendary Card from United in Stormwind
As you can see, it’s double the price for half the cards. Even without any further assessment, you can already know that it’s NOT a good deal. Or – to be more precise – it’s not a good deal if expanding your collection is what you want. It’s clearly targeted at whales who are looking for a full golden collection. If you’re one of those players, you would most likely buy it without me telling you to do it anyway.
One thing worth mentioning is how much Dust you’re going to get for it. Sadly it’s hard to calculate because, with only 10 packs, the variability will be massive (luckying and getting a Legendary already means that the Dust value goes up significantly). However, at the very least, disenchanting all of the cards (including the Golden Legendary) will give you 4600 Dust (300 per pack + 1600 from Legendary). So, if you’re looking at the pure Dust value, this is a better deal than straight-up buying packs from the store and probably a better deal than a lot of bundles too in pure Dust value. That said, you don’t generally buy packs just for the Dust, do you? Dust ratios in Hearthstone are pretty poor and it’s always better to open the cards than to craft them. So if you’re looking to expand your collection, it’s better to buy a bundle with more packs and just get the cards instead of getting this bundle and crafting them (it’s not like you’re going to do that much crafting with ~5k Dust anyway).
Long story short, it’s a terrible deal if you’re just looking to get more cards from the new expansion. It would be cheaper to just buy packs from the store without any deals. This bundle is only worth it if you specifically look for golden cards or need a lot of Dust for some reason.
Both bundles are available through August 23.
Bought the stormwind golden bundle earlier today. And later today another Alliance bundle appears in the shop with the SAME price but 5 Extra golden packs. That has to some sort of mistakes right? I mean come on Blizzard.
