Mulligans
Aggro Mulligans
You always mulligan hard for mad scientist and camel, no matter what. Never keep an injured kvaldir. never keep two weapons. Zombie chow is always a great T1 drop, always keep. Keep dreadscale vs paladin and egg druid (tough call on this one)
Here’s a stab at a midrange/control style hunter. I’ll explain why this is somewhat different than other hunter startegies and describe the early game core of the deck first, then explain what could be changed to give it a different look.
The goal of the deck is to present a strong early board that can be tough to deal with. A turn 1 zombie chow, followed by t2 mad scientist followed by t3 desert camel, bringing in a 2/4 uninjured kvaldir is a tough board to deal with. Glaivezooka comes in to the mix here as well which can pair well with an injured kvaldir that you get stuck with sometimes after a mulligan (looking for a favourable trade here is key). The other early game board controller that I think is underplayed in hunter is Steamwheedle Sniper… he can be a good 2 drop when you don’t have the coin, affecting the way your opponent plays, or he can be a great 4 drop to encourage positive trades and keeping board control. Of course, with the rediculous tempo generated by mad scientist, eaglehorn bow is a must in the list.
So here’s the list of core control: 1 zombie chow, 2 mad scientist (with 3 secrets of choice depending on meta), 2 desert camel (with 2injured kvaldir), 1-2 steamwheedle sniper, 2eaglehorn bow (so that’s 14 cards… the rest can be toyed with)
After that list, you can play around with plenty of different builds. I went with with a brann battlecry toolbox list as he has some synergy with camel and a few other beasts (tomb spider, houndmaster, stampedign kodo and ram wrangler), and since we have some spells in the form of traps, flare and hunter’s mark, I decided to have a lock n load component. Thus far it’s been running ok (currently at rank 9 playing casually… about 10 games a day). There can be inconsistencies with the battlecries with the lower number of beasts, and it is somewhat vulnerable to large board clears.
Other considerations I’ve had for filling the “other” 16 cards:
– deathrattle build: using piloted shredder, sludge belcher, savannah higmane, sylvanna windrunner and a sinle copy of feign death.
– dragon build: running brann, blackwing technician, twighlight guardian, azure drake, blackwing corruptor, and a mix of big guys.
Have fun testing! Let me know if you have success and what changes you made!
Thanks
