Great card. There are a lot more good hunter spells than bad ones. 4/5
This card WILL SEE PLAY!
it’s competing with Spring Paw – but it’s def a useful utility card that you don’t completely hate playing late game if you need that one last burn spell…
Butterflies are fun! Soooo fun!
pretty much
For Zul’Jin… this can give you a spell that backfires, making Secret Plan a more consistent AND higher value choice. Unless you really need a 1/1.
I can’t imagine any particular deck that loves to run this, but 1 drops that replace themselves usually work fine tossed into a deck. Especially for Hunter, who struggles for card draw and will soon have very few good 1-drop beasts (well, ACTUAL 1-drop beats, you don’t want Springpaw or Timber Wolf on an empty board).
Who makes you play the spell if it’s so terrible..?
Then you just played an overcosted Snowflipper Penguin.
Finally, a good freaking one drop.
I rate this significantly lower than Webspinner, Macaw and Crystalline Oracle, because the card you get comes from a pool of worse-quality cards on average. Even if you look at Spell Hunter, there’s a ton of spells the archetype didn’t touch: Arcane Shot, Beastial Wrath, Goblin Prank, Misdirection, Snipe, The Beast Within are probably the worst offenders. Other cards like Multishot and Explosive Shot at least do something, but they’re significantly overcosted, while some of the best Hunter spells are rotating out: Flanking Strike, Emerald Spellstone, Wandering Monster.
Of course, its battlecry was only half the reason Midrange Hunter played Jewelled Macaw; the other is the fact that it’s a 1-mana beast, and how that synergizes with Hyena, Razormaw and Master’s Call. Macaw has been displaced by Timber Wolf now, however- and that bodes poorly for this minion with the same body and a worse ability. 2/5
On the note of spell Hunter there was a reason bot to use beat within or bestial wrath it was a dead draw untill you had a beast on the board. Snipe was at it’s best in the early turns since more likely to kill the minions. Arcane shot wasn’t as big because the better strategy was candleshot and hunters mark to pick off big or small minions. Goblin prank was also a dead card without a minion to use it on. Misdirection was ok but the go to strategy when facing Hunter has always been to test for freezing trap by using small value or cards like battlecries which dodges the main usefullness of misdirection. But it still provided a way to make opponent waste an attack and saw some use. This isn’t that bad of a minion due to fact as a beast with death rattle it has synergy with several Hunter cards. The fact it provides a random Hunter spell and as a turn one drop is rather good. There are only 2 Hunter spells you would not want to pull from this tracking and boomzooka everything else is playable in some form. Masters call and flare can provide a way to draw from the deck which is one of the biggest weak points for Hunter value generation with the loss of deatgstalker. Nine lives can return this to hand and trigger the effect feeding 3 cards for use. I wouldn’t say to use one put in deck but if need more value and got from this as rng it doesn’t hurt if haven’t played another deathrattle yet. Plus it helps add even more cards to the list of spells playing zuljin will trigger.
The thing is all of the Hunter cards are usefull to pull the worst case scenario is you pull boomzooka after that tracking is almost as bad. This is in reference to running zuljin as well all of the other spells are playable and can be usefull even flare sure it’s only at it’s best against secret users but it still draws a card. This card is just fine in standard since all the cards available except those 2 are likely something you’d want to play heck nine lives can even give you a copy of this if wanted. Compare that to the random beast and there is more cards you don’t want. The highlight of this card is whatever you pull can be cast again by zuljin later in the game. Which like said there’s only 2 spells you don’t want to pull from this.
I like how every little fly in this game is a ferocious beast. Don’t get fooled by the looks.
Babbling book with a beat type and deathrattle instead of battlecry. You do not want this getting overkilled. But at the same same time it is a solid one drop. they could have beefed the stats a bit and make it a 2/1 to better suit the hunter archetype. After all it is a ferocious beast. There existed a world where 3/1 statline existed for one drops.
Overkill isn’t really an issue in the opening turns there’s also that as a Hunter if opponent doesn’t have a board turn 6 drop this then hit it yourself with baited arrow. Get back a card and upgrade to a 5/5 minion.
too big of a mana cost to make it into a 5/5. Baited arrow gave you an understated minion for its cost with deal the upside of dealing a bit dmg to your oponents minions. Now it will cost you one more mana for a 5/5 boddy and a random spell. without the dmg to oponents minions. You are basicly trading one battlecry for another. And if you draw this later unlike priest with his 1/1 elemental that was a staple card but it eventually got replaced. You cannot heal and recover the lost tempo.
And imagine gettign a micochip w/e it was. even more uncool. for you
But i like it that with 1/1 beats you amy finally get a butterfly hunter. Put in the webspinners the jewelled makkaw. There is 1/1 jewelled scarabs. The 5 mana 3 webspinners. All we need is butterfly trap. A hunter secret that summons 3 butterflyes or spider trap that summon webspinners. 😀
The funny thing is that rexar can make the archetype possible 😀
This pretty much already exists with Webspinner, and that was okay. Jeweled Macaw is obviously better, but this will be the only value generating one drop in the Hunter class. As such, it’s not like there’s anything that can do what this’ll do better than it.
Really, its a question of “Is the weak body a worthwhile trade off for the value relative to stronger (stat wise) one drops like Crystalizer and Argent Squire?”
If the answer ends up being no, this will see little play.
I think it is reat splash card. You will add it here and there because its 1 drop and because it gives you more than 1 drop value. Just like a lackey.
The same could be said about Jeweled Macaw, and for a fair while, Midrange Hunter did not play it.
jeweled macaw was battlecry. If you drew it at turn 10 for example you could play the 1/1 token and than the beast. This is deathrattle. Its more like the priest crystaline oracle. The card was staple for priest for quite some time, although being super bad, but priest doesn’t get any good cards for reasons unknown. Apparently resurrect priest is the only priest since blackrock mountain.
So the card is not bad. if you draw this turn 1 you can play it as a filler if you do not have anything else to play that turn. But most of the times hunters do have what to play that turn. It can be used to feed your hyena so its not a waste of card slots. Perhabs if quest hunter was still a thing. Just like with priest it was going to be a staple. Thick you quest and get a card is not half that bad. But for now there are way better cards for hunter. And i think dragon hunter could also become a thing so We shael see.
It’s a great card with value on the opening hand and is highly unlikely to ever get silenced except by priest with silence all enemies but never as the target. There’s a few stinker spells but pretty much all of them are playable. Worst case I can think of is boomzooka also generates another spell for zuljin.
if zuljin sees play, this will.
its literally crystalline oracle but easier to synergy with what you get and that saw play
hunter getting resourceful cards is interesting
Comparing it to jeweled macaw, random hunter spells on average are worse than random hunter minions. On top of that, macaw has battlecry while this has deathrattle…
I don’t like it very much
But this will never get silenced on turn 1. So you will get your spell 99%.
What could be the worse spell? They are very situational. But calling them “bad” is a bit to hard i think.
4/5. Cheap value.
I’m not thinking about silence becayse that would almost always be wasted on this card. One of the upsides of macaw is that if you draw it kater in the game yku can simply play it and then play what it gives you. You can’t do that with this card, which makes it a very bad draw in the mid and lategame
It does make an easy target for some stuff though baited arrow if there’s nothing else you can do returns a spell and gives a 5/5. Goblin prank give this a boost and rush if it lives it’ll die at end of turn anyway. Anything that boost beast can be triggered on it. Also revenge of the wild gets more value if this was on the board as well since returns a spell. There’s several uses to this card so it’s not a completely hopeless late game topdeck.
You’re mentioning combos now, which would require the minion to still be alive (so that spell was already in your deck and not pulled by it). :p
I’m not saying it’s a bad card (still better than nothing if no better cards are revealed) but it’s (IMO) overrated.
I’m implying combos because there’s 2 other cards that can generate Hunter spells that aren’t in the deck one requires a weapon equipped and the other is a dmging spell.
Macaw wasn’t Hunter minion it was random beasts including neutrals and there were several bad pulls I’ve pulled the penguin and chicken from it before. This on the other hand can give you something at least guaranteed to be playable even if it’s bad.
You’re right, I didn’t write it correctly. However, my point is still valid. Everyone has pulled those but it doesn’t make it worse. That’s just how rng works. The difference is the pool of cards it pulls from
