Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Whizbang’s Workshop (Week 14) – June 2024

A new expansion was finally announced! Perils on Paradise releases in exactly a month (July 23), so there’s still plenty of time we have with Whizbnang’s Workshop. We’re only entering the card reveal season with 22 out of 145 cards showcased. And it’s a long one – the longest one in a few years if we don’t count March of the Lich King (which was announced earlier than it normally would due to BlizzCon timing). But the expansion is not every piece of news we have.

Patch 29.6 went live on Monday, and one of its main features was Genn Greymane and Baku the Mooneater temporarily returning to Standard. They will be playable until Perils of Paradise drops. And while some people were scared at first (after all, those were completely broken when they first launched and they have been great in Wild over the years), those fears turned out to be completely unnecessary. We have a few semi-viable Even/Odd decks, but most of them are just weaker versions of already existing decks. So if you want to play them for fun, go ahead. But competitively, so far they don’t look great. Out of those two, Genn is clearly the stronger one. If you want to learn more, Old Guardian just wrote an article about those showcasing some potential builds. Check it out here.

Other than Baku & Genn, we have another new card – the free Legendary Marin the Manager. And unlike those two Witchwood classics, Marin is actually pretty good. It’s not the best free Legendary we ever had, but he fits into multiple decks and performs well above average. The treasures you can pick from still hold up after all those years and this time you don’t have to go through any hoops to get them – it’s just a plain old Battlecry. That’s why you will see a bunch of decks featured below running him.

As for the meta itself, it might be a bit too early to call a breakthrough, but for the first time in a few weeks, I have some news. Previously the meta was incredibly stale, with only minor popularity shifts and no new decks. This has changed with a new Druid invention that started gaining traction early this week. Some people call it Hybrid Druid, others Tempo Druid, sometimes even Dragon Druid. The deck is a bit hard to classify, as it’s an interesting mixture of tempo, burn, and even some late-game plays. It quickly became popular in high Legend, but it’s slowly spreading throughout the ladder now. And it’s actually performing very well so far, early stats put it in Tier 1 (although it might fall down a bit once people learn what it is and how to play against it). So far the rest of the meta hasn’t changed yet, but it will have to adapt soon.

Below is a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.
