How-to Beat Vustrasz the Ancient – Dungeon Run Final Boss Guide

Vustrasz the Ancient is one of the powerful final bosses you will come across in the Kobolds and Catacombs Dungeon Run! Our guide will hopefully shed some light on how-to defeat this ancient Dragon.

Vustrasz the Ancient Basic Information

  • Hero Power: Vindictive Breath (0 Mana) – Deal 1 damage to all enemies for each missing Master Chest.
  • Flavor: His vast treasure stores are for the taking… if you dare!
  • Starting Health: 70

Vustrasz did not end up being an actual card in the Kobolds and Catacombs expansion! He instead sits upon his treasure, like any good Dragon would, awaiting you at the end of your Dungeon Runs.

Vustrasz the Ancient’s Deck

Vustrasz’s deck is mostly buffs for his Master Chests with some Dragons, but he also runs Lightbomb which can be problematic.

How-to Defeat Vustrasz the Ancient

Vustrasz starts the game with five Master Chests on his side of the board. You will recognize these as the same chests that Marin the Fox spawns for his opponent. When you destroy one you will get one of the following treasures: Golden KoboldTolin's GobletWondrous Wand, or Zarog's Crown. These treasures, while relatively strong, are not exactly worth the punishment you will receive every turn for destroying them due to Vustrasz’s hero power: Vindictive Breath (0 Mana) – Deal 1 damage to all enemies for each missing Master Chest. He does this at the beginning of every turn, and it deals damage to you and your minions.

Vustrasz’s main gameplan is to buff its chests while using AOE to soften up your board. While this can sometimes be hard to deal with, you aren’t under a ton of pressure, so you can afford to leave up his buffed chests and just worry about some of the minions he plays. One thing to keep tabs on, he plays Velen's Chosen on his chests so his innocent seeming Spirit Lash could easily end up buffed by the Spell Damage and punishing to your board while giving him massive healing.

If you are in a position to play the slow game then you can absolutely play it against Vustrasz. He will often load up his board with minions making it so he can’t play anything else, and as long as these minions are pretty weak you can bide your time and build towards your combos and power turns.

The elder Dragon is pretty susceptible to just being beaten down with big minions. If you are running a deck that has the Scepter of Summoning passive with a bunch of large minions then you are going to be in a pretty good spot as long as you don’t break too many chests. He has no real hard removal, and the only card that could really punish you is Lightbomb.

Big burn spells (Mage) are also pretty solid against Vustrasz, you’ll just have to have a plan to deal with Chromatic Dragonkin before you start slinging them. You will likely want to do this all at once if possible, because he does have Looming Presence (Heroic) and Spirit Lash which can bring him back out of lethal range.

Good luck against this Dragon who just loves himself some treasure! I hope this guide helps you grab a victory on your way to that fancy card back.

Do I stand any chance against this boss if I’ve been cheesing the bosses with my cloak of stealth, using convert to get their most valuable cards and exploiting it to the max potential. I only have one big minion, the rest are trash 3 attack or less and scepter of summoning, please help I’m 100 percent getting owned by this boss unless I highroll a legendary from his c hest.

For a rogue, I’ve got myself a 2x deathrattle and a Wax Statue. Face, die, get 2 5×1 ragers, die, get 4x ragers face … win.
